When accessing the server with a Samba file share instead of a prompt for credentials\u00a0the\u00a0error message \u201cOperation not permitted\u201d is displayed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/james-batchelor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/error.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-388\" src=\"https:\/\/james-batchelor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/error.jpg\" alt=\"Kodi Operation Not Permitted\" width=\"500\" height=\"187\" srcset=\"https:\/\/james-batchelor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/error.jpg 500w, https:\/\/james-batchelor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/error-300x112.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 85vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Kodi allows the manual adding of network locations but does not support adding the credentials that are needed to access the location.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore a bit of tweaking is needed to get access to Windows 2012 shares on Kodi.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The settings files for Kodi differ dependant on the <a href=\"http:\/\/kodi.wiki\/view\/Userdata\" target=\"_blank\">system it is running<\/a>, so its worth visiting the page to make sure the right files are edited, for example the files on a Raspbmc \/ OSMC installation on\u00a0a Raspberry Pi is <em>home\/.kodi\/userdata<\/em>. <a href=\"https:\/\/james-batchelor.com\/index.php\/2016\/03\/25\/connecting-to-a-headless-raspberry-pi\/\">Connect<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0the command console for the Pi using the default credentials (Raspbmc: pi\/raspberry. OSMC: osmc\/osmc) and navigate to the Userdata folder.<\/p>\n<p>From here,\u00a0first open the\u00a0sources.xml file, and add the new share, using the previous share a guide of the code syntax.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_389\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-389\" style=\"width: 661px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/james-batchelor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/sources.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-389\" src=\"https:\/\/james-batchelor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/sources.png\" alt=\"sources.xml file\" width=\"661\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/james-batchelor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/sources.png 661w, https:\/\/james-batchelor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/sources-300x145.png 300w, https:\/\/james-batchelor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/sources-624x302.png 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-389\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">sources.xml file<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Next, opening the passwords.xml file and add the credentials for the new share in a similar way.<\/p>\n<p>Restart Kodi and try accessing the share to see if it works.
